Birding Guide and administrative assistant for Birding Ecotours
Growing up on a Big Five private game reserve, Wian has always had a great passion for the African bush. With an ecologist for a dad, he learned all things natural from early childhood, starting with indigenous trees and mammals at the young age of three! From there his curiosity and interests within nature accelerated. Going on regular camping trips in various parts of South Africa, Wian was afforded the opportunity to get to know the Kruger National Park, the Cape, and other parts of magnificent South Africa rather well. In 2016 he started guiding big trips for Birding Ecotours on a part-time basis, and we are delighted to welcome Wian full-time from March 2017 onwards. He now resides in Cape Town, arguably the world’s most beautiful city.
Wian’s passion for all things birding developed in his teenage years, and since then his interests and knowledge of birds have been growing. After completing High School, Wian became a professionally qualified field guide through the “Field Guides Association of Southern Africa” (FGASA) and has been working as a professional guide ever since. He also volunteers his time and knowledge to citizen science projects recording bird, plant, and animal species of all kinds.
