Birding

Most of our tours are birding tours. We offer set-departure tours on six of the seven continents (Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America) and can arrange, on request, a birding cruise to Antarctica. We also can run any of our tours privately at any time or  arrange custom itineraries for you — send us your wish list and we’ll put the itinerary together.

Botanical

The Cape Floral Kingdom is the smallest on the planet and yet has more plant species than any other! It’s even more species-rich for plants per unit area than the Amazon! The array of unique plants is, simply, spectacular. Come join us as we scour through rare succulents and proteas across the Cape, from the Karoo in bloom to the fynbos to Namaqualand. Several of us on the Birding Ecotours from the Cape have studied Botany and/or live in Cape Town, so you’re in qualified hands! Please contact us.

Mammal

Have you ever wanted to wake to the dawn chorus of White-handed Gibbons in Thailand, hear the nightly roar of an African Lion or see the dappled coat of a Leopard. A bull elephant waltzing across the African planes or Lemurs and exotic primates? Well, we an show you all of these on our amazing mammal tours. We scour the globe in search of exotic mammalian wildlife and not just the big stuff, we find Mouse Deer and Treeshrew in Asia, Smooth-coated Otter in India and much much more. So forget the typical mammal safari. Instead, our guides use their specialist knowledge and highly developed observation skills to locate difficult and elusive species, but this doesn’t mean we ignore the more typical lions and elephants.

We are keen on mammals, and we appreciate that species such as the Tigers in India, Wolves in North America, Jaguars in Central and South America, Gorillas in Uganda, Spectacled Bears in the Andes, and a plethora of other magnificent beasts have only been seen by a privileged few. Finding these species can take a large amount of effort and local knowledge – a challenge that we enjoy taking on.

You can either join one of our set itinerary trips, or custom-make almost any kind of mammal safari with us. We contribute a percentage of our profits towards the conservation of mammals (and other wildlife that we make a living off), sustainable development and the upliftment of previously disadvantaged communities so please feel free to contact us for one of our amazing mammal toursWe offer mammal safaris that are quite different from the typical safari. Using Namibia as an example destination, our aim is to make every effort in finding localized mammals such as the attractive Black Mongoose, Damara Dik-dik, Desert Elephant, Desert Rhino and more , as well as more widespread species such as Leopard, Lion, Elephant, Giraffe and all the other megafauna that makes Africa (often called “The Mammal Continent”) famous. In 2007, we ran our first Mammal Expedition in South Africa, focussing on finding several of the most difficult of African mammals – including Aardvark, Black-footed Cat and Pangolin (always very tough), among other species. In Peru, we have “Ghosts of the Peruvian Rainforest”, a trip aimed at finding two endangered mammal and three endangered bird species (with tons of other species found as a by-product of the central theme of this tour). We also have a Whale and Dolphin Trip (including freshwater dolphin) in Peru. On our mammal trips, we typically focus on finding large and small mammals, but we also see loads of birds and other wildlife, together with incredibly spectacular scenery.

Photographic

Are you the type who dreams about getting a Resplendent Quetzal in your viewfinder? Getting the right light on a Whitehead’s Trogon or a Black-and-Yellow Broadbill, or framing a Picathartes just perfectly? We realize that getting that one great picture takes effort, and we plan to allow you to do that. In countries such as Kenya, where the photography is partly vehicle-based, we understand that getting the vehicle in the right light and right angle can make all the difference. We understand that having a window seat at all times with fully opening windows is a must to get close to the birds and wildlife, and we want to make sure you get that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Also, we understand that having the room to keep your stuff at the ready is important, so we try to keep empty seats in our vehicles for photo-tours. We are photographers ourselves and will take the time to manoeuvre you into the right position to get the shot you want. Though we specialize in birds, we also love getting great shots of mammals, butterflies, lizards, crocodiles, dragonflies, and a myriad more, and we know where to go to get them. We know the animals and know where to find them and get you into the right spot for a memorable photo. Come join us on one of our fantastic photography voyages around the world. Many of our tours are specialist birding photo tours, but others are less focused just on birds – please ask us if in doubt.

Great photography options are available on all our set-departure tours, and most of our guides are serious photographers themselves. A few of our set-departure tours also are purely photographic tours, where photography is more important than species count and time can be taken to get exactly the picture you dream of. If we don’t offer a photo tour to a country you are interested in, please contact us. We will run any of our tours as photographic custom tours at any time, or we can arrange a custom itinerary for you, centered exclusively on your photographic needs and wants.
